Sydney Ramon is a third year Political Science major at Texas A&M University and a Master of Public Service and Administration Candidate at The Bush School of Public Service and Administration, from McAllen, Texas. This past spring, Sydney accepted a full-time education policy internship with a public affairs firm in Washington, D.C. through the Texas A&M Public Policy Program. On-campus, Sydney leads the Legislative Relations Commission where she is responsible for crafting a comprehensive higher education legislative agenda and training students to advocate for these priorities within our state and federal legislatures. Previously, Sydney worked in several roles with Texas A&M University to develop digital and traditional media strategies that communicated the importance of higher education and advanced the university’s legislative priorities in the Texas legislature. Most recently, Sydney was appointed by Texas A&M University President Katherine Banks to serve on a working group with the goal of developing creative strategies for advancing the university’s remote campuses across the state. In her hometown, she remains an active community member through her service on several advisory boards and as the founder of an organization called The RGV Matters, which works to empower young people through youth-led and youth-centered civic engagement programming. Her upbringing as the daughter of a public school teacher and sister of a special needs student has informed her passion for advancing equity in education and improving access for all students. Sydney is grateful for the opportunity to represent her home state of Texas at the 2022 College Student Congress and looks forward to learning from her fellow college students!
